Today I set out to email the mayors of all 50 states asking what they are doing about murderous police brutality. This is the email I sent:
Dear Mayor,
I would like to know what you and your office are doing to end police brutality, particularly against citizens of color, and to end the cycle of violence that is gripping our communities. It is time for you to take action and build better relationships between police and the citizens of your town toward preventing future violence, and to hold police departments accountable when their officers use excessive force.
I suggest implementing the Limit Use of Force solutions outlined here by Campaign Zero. I’m hoping that you will utilize this moment, honor the victims of the recent tragedies (especially including the officers who were killed in Dallas) by demonstrating your humanity, leadership, and offer a healthy and hopeful future to communities across this country.
I beg you to act now and encourage your fellow officials to do the same.

Please please trumpet your voices loudly and email the hell out of this list. Let’s end this brutality against our black citizens and citizens of color NOW in the name of far too many precious lives lost.
